FARMINGTON – MaineHealth Franklin Hospital is proud to announce a significant renovation project to address the surging demand for emergency services, enhance the patient experience, and expand vital services. The cornerstone of this ambitious project is a multi-million Emergency Department Modernization initiative, which will be completed in phases over two years. Planning for this transformative project is underway, with hopes to begin construction this winter. This phased approach will ensure minimal disruption to patient care while allowing for the careful and thorough modernization of the Emergency Department to accommodate the growing patient volumes. The new ED will include additional patient rooms, dedicated behavioral health spaces, and a fast-track triage room for low-acuity ED visits.

Since 2018, the ED at Franklin has witnessed a significant increase in the demand for emergency medical services. In 2018, there were approximately 13,000-14,000 patients annually. Fast forward to 2024, the Emergency Department now serves nearly 20,000 patients annually.

“These renovations are a testament to our commitment to improving health care access and quality for our community,” said MaineHealth Franklin Hospital President Barbara Sergio. “We are immensely grateful for the support of MaineHealth, which will enable us to take significant strides toward enhancing the patient experience and better serving the health care needs of our community. The phased approach for the Emergency Department Modernization ensures that patient care remains our top priority throughout the renovation process.” MaineHealth Franklin Hospital has, with the support of Senator Collins, applied for Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) funds to support the project.

In addition to the Emergency Department Modernization, MaineHealth Franklin Hospital recently announced a newly-renovated Cancer Care and IV Therapy space, formerly Oncology and Infusion. The $3.5 million renovation allows the hospital to better meet the growing community need by increasing patient access by up to 30 percent and creating a more welcoming and comfortable environment for patients and families utilizing these services. The new space also streamlines services by centralizing all aspects of consultation and treatment.

“These enhancements will go a long way in improving patient experience and care offerings for our community members undergoing oncology and infusion treatments,” said MaineHealth Franklin Hospital president Barbara Sergio.

MaineHealth Franklin Hospital’s expansion projects underscore its dedication to providing high-quality health care and its unwavering commitment to the health and well-being of the community it serves. The hospital looks forward to the positive impact these renovations will have on patient care, access, and overall health care experiences.
