NYC Health + Hospitals/Sea View CEO Matthew Levy, NYC Health + Hospitals SVP for Post-Acute Care Dr. Khoi Luong, NYC Health + Hospitals Board Member Jackie Rowe-Adams, New York City Council Member David Carr, and others celebrate Sea View’s recognition as the #1 nursing home in New York State.

Staten Island, NY — NYC Health + Hospitals/Sea View kicks off the New Year as the #1 Ranked Nursing Home in New York State by Newsweek in 2024 for the second year in a row and as a high-performing nursing home in the nation for short-term rehabilitation and long-term care according to U.S. News & World Report – 2024 Best Nursing Homes.

Newsweek identified 500 top facilities (with more than 150 beds), across 25 states, with 58 in New York state. The rankings are based on five data sources, including performance data, peer recommendations, management of the COVID-19 situation and accreditations from The Joint Commission and Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities. The rankings are designed to assist patients and their families in making informed decisions about where to receive their long-term and post-acute care.

“I am thrilled to celebrate this wonderful achievement with our dedicated staff. Their commitment to our mission and the love that they display to our residents is the foundation of our success. The difficulties presented over the past few years, makes this achievement a bit sweeter, as we can recognize that emotions have run high and the pandemic has amplified the need for compassion, dignity and person-centered care,” said Sea View CEO Matthew Levy. “Being recognized again as the #1 nursing home in New York State is quite the accomplishment, but it is the continued commitment and excellence displayed by the staff that I am most proud of.”

U.S. News & World Report evaluated more than 15,000 nursing homes throughout the country and rated most of them in two different areas: short-term rehabilitation and long-term care. In 2023-2024, performance ratings were determined by nurse staffing, patient outcomes and whether steps known to be effective in avoiding harm and improving health were built into nursing home routines.

“It has been a wave of great pride for this year’s recognition as the best nursing homes in the nation and Sea View holding the top spot in New York for the second year in a row,” said NYC Health + Hospitals Senior Vice President of Post-Acute Care Dr. Khoi Luong. “Without the incredible work of our compassionate team of doctors, nurses, rehabilitation professionals and so many others, our ability to provide the highest quality of short-term rehabilitation and long-term care to our most vulnerable New Yorkers would not be possible.”

“I am very fortunate to be cared for by such a kind group of people at Sea View that show me the respect and dignity I deserve.  Their smiles and comforting words always make me feel like I’m right at home — and that’s very important to me and my family, so I thank them from the bottom of my heart,” said Sea View Resident Marilyn Sasso.

“I want to congratulate NYC Health + Hospitals/Sea View for being ranked the best nursing home in the state for the second consecutive year. All the healthcare workers who staff this great community in the heart of Staten Island are once again getting the recognition they deserve,” said NYC Councilman David Carr. “The fact is this distinction is no surprise to any of us because we know of the high standard of care practiced at Sea View. The rest of New York, and in my opinion, the rest of the country, would do well to learn from the example put forward by this phenomenal borough institution.”

“Staten Islanders deserve the highest level of care, and for the second year in a row, it is evident that Sea View is leading the charge. I want to congratulate and thank the incredible professionals at Sea View & NYC Health + Hospitals for the incredible work they do every day – ensuring Staten Islanders have access to quality and compassionate care. Sea View is such an integral part of our community and I could not be more proud to represent you,” said NYS Assemblyman Sam Pirozzolo.

“Congratulations to NYC Health + Hospitals/Sea View for being ranked the #1 nursing home in New York State for two consecutive years, and for being one of the best nursing homes in the nation for both long and short-term care,” said Congresswoman Nicole Malliotakis. “This remarkable achievement reflects the steadfast commitment you’ve made to our seniors and providing them with the highest quality of care.”

“Congratulations to Sea View Skilled Nursing Facility for being named the #1 ranked nursing home in New York State for the second year in a row by Newsweek, and for their U.S News & World Report recognition as a high performing nursing home for short term rehabilitation and long-term care,” said NYS Senate Deputy Minority Leader, Andrew Lanza. “This recognition is testament to the dedicated, hard-working and skilled nurses, doctors, administrators, and every healthcare worker who provides exceptional care to the residents they serve. On behalf of Staten Island, we are proud of your work and offer our continued support as you help make Staten Island a better place to live.”

“We would like to extend a tremendous congratulations for Sea View’s well-deserved #1 ranking,” said Staten Island Borough President Vito Fossella. “Providing top-quality long-term care to the seniors who need it most has been Sea View’s top priority, and we could not be prouder of the essential role they have played in our community. We appreciate Sea View’s excellence and are grateful for their commitment to providing the best for our senior citizens.”

“The work of the Staten Island District Attorney’s Office and that of NYC Health + Hospitals/Sea View Nursing Home are in some ways one in the same: protect the safety and well-being of our senior citizens,” said Staten Island District Attorney Michael McMahon.
I send my heartfelt thanks to the dedicated staff, nurses, and doctors on site at NYC Health + Hospitals/Sea View for providing countless Staten Islanders in need of short-term rehabilitation and long-term care, impeccable service and hearty congratulations for their recognition as the number one nursing home in the nation for the second year in a row!”
