Project AnimalAid gets largest-ever surgical instrument donation

BOULDER, Colo. — Project AnimalAid has received its largest gifts-in-kind donation to date with the arrival of 17 pallets of surgical instruments from Pennsylvania-based Sklar Corporation, which does business as Sklar Instruments.

In Brief:
  • 17 pallets of surgical instruments donated by Sklar Corporation
  • Supplies will support 125 veterinary and animal welfare partners
  • Donation helps prevent medical waste and promotes sustainability
  • Project AnimalAid seeks monetary donations for distribution costs

The Boulder nonprofit, which aims to improve animal health worldwide, said the stainless-steel tools will support veterinary teams and animal welfare organizations in the United States and in countries where access to equipment is limited or nonexistent.

“This donation from Sklar Corporation is our most valuable donation to date and it will have a long-lasting impact on animal health,” said Meghan Curtis, executive director of Project AnimalAid. “These supplies go directly into the hands of veterinarians and animal rescuers who are doing lifesaving work, often with minimal resources, in hard-to-reach areas.”

The donation includes forceps, scissors, scalpels, retractors, towel clamps and wound repair kits, along with other tools essential for spay and neuter programs, routine veterinary care and emergency treatment. The stainless-steel instruments can be sterilized and reused for years.

Project AnimalAid is asking for monetary donations to help deliver the instruments to its 125 nonprofit partners in the U.S., Latin America, Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe. The group says all of its donated supplies were once bound for landfills or incinerators and it has redirected more than 50 tons of medical equipment since its founding.

“The environmental aspect of Project AnimalAid’s mission is equally as important for us as improving animal health and welfare,” Curtis said.

Founded more than a century ago, Sklar Corporation has long supported humanitarian and medical initiatives. President Mark Gordon said the donation reflects the company’s commitment to community outreach and sustainability.

“By donating quality surgical instruments and supplies to nonprofits improving animal health around the world, we extend our mission beyond hospitals and clinics and into the global community,” Gordon said. “It is a meaningful way for us to reduce waste, promote sustainability and help those doing vital work where it is needed most.”
