These Rochester nursing homes named some of best in U.S. See the list
Four nursing homes in the Rochester area were named best nursing homes in 2025 by U.S. News & World Report. Jewish Home in Brighton, The Maplewood in Webster, Penfield Place in Penfield and St. Ann’s Community in Rochester all received an overall score of 5-out-of-5 and high performing rankings for their care.
U.S. News rated almost 15,000 U.S. nursing homes and skilled nursing facilities, including 603 in New York, evaluating them on factors like resident care, safety, nurse staffing levels, use of antipsychotic drugs and success in preventing emergency room visits.
Here’s what to know.
Why Jewish Home stood out
According to U.S. News, 54.3% of Jewish Home’s short-term rehabilitation residents were able to return home after being discharged, which is higher than the state and national average.
Jewish Home also exceeded the state and national average when it comes to the amount of nurse staffing per resident per day — 4 hours and 47 minutes — in both their short-term rehabilitation and long-term care programs, how often a registered nurse is on site for at least eight hours in their short-term rehabilitation program and the percentage of nursing staff that stayed employed from the previous year in their long-term care program.
In long-term care, 86.8% of Jewish Home’s residents maintained the ability to move, eat, use the bathroom and perform other common activities without help, which is higher than the state and national average.
Why The Maplewood stood out
The Maplewood, which only has a long-term care program, saw 88% of its residents maintain the ability to move, eat, use the bathroom and perform other common activities without help.
And according to U.S. News, the nursing home also exceeded the state and national average when it comes to the amount of nurse staffing per resident per day: 5 hours and 47 minutes.

Why Penfield Place stood out
Almost 53% of Penfield Place’s short-term rehabilitation residents were able to return home after being discharged, which is higher than the state and national average.
None of its residents fell and endured a major injury like a bone fracture or dislocation and the nursing home, which only has a short-term rehabilitation program, exceeded the state and national average when it comes to the amount of nurse staffing per resident per day: 4 hours and 22 minutes.
And with 14 minutes of physical therapist staffing per resident per day, Penfield Place doubles the state average and over triples the national average.
Why St. Ann’s Community stood out
According to U.S. News, 58% of St. Ann’s Community’s short-term rehabilitation residents were able to return home after being discharged.
St. Ann’s Community also exceeded the state and national average when it comes to the amount of nurse staffing per resident per day — 4 hours and 51 minutes — in both their short-term rehabilitation and long-term care programs and the percentage of nursing staff that stayed employed from the previous year in their long-term care program.
In long-term care, 87.2% of St. Ann’s Community’s residents maintained the ability to move, eat, use the bathroom and perform other common activities without help.
