UF Health is building a more connected health care future

UF Health remains committed to providing high-quality, patient-centered care while adapting to the changing needs of our community.  As it continues to grow and innovate, it is excited to share an update on its clinical enterprise and steps being taken to build a more connected and comprehensive regional health care system.

In the fall of 2024, UF Health announced a unified governing board for the collective UF Health clinical enterprise that supports the University of Florida’s teaching, research and patient care missions. This was an essential step in becoming a more integrated system, enhancing its ability to deliver excellent health care to its patients. As part of this transition, Heather B. Long M.S.N., was named senior vice president and Central Florida regional president for UF Health hospitals in The Villages and Leesburg, as well as outpatient locations throughout Lake and Sumter counties. This expanded role reflects Long’s extensive contributions, along with those other executive leaders, in managing the continued growth of clinical programs services and facilities. These changes position UF Health to better support the health care missions of the university by improving patient care coordination and access as well as the quality of services provided to our communities.

As part of UF Health’s commitment to transformation, it updated and streamlined governance. This change allowed longtime board members to transition while opening the door to new voices that bring fresh perspectives and renewed energy.  The local board now includes a group of impactful individuals, new voices from various sectors including business leaders, educational advocates and community influencers.  By pulling them closer into the decision-making process, it ensures the health care needs of our community and its  service mission to the citizens of Florida are more fully represented. UF Health believes that there is no better group to be the voice of our community than those who live, work and serve within it and are committed to leveraging their insights to shape a health care system that best serves everyone.

“This evolution in our leadership model represents a pivotal step forward in our commitment to integrated, high-quality care.  By bringing a diverse and dynamic board, we are ensuring our communities have a strong voice in shaping the future of health care. I am thrilled to work alongside such an engaged group of leaders as we continue to enhance services and expand access to care, ultimately strengthening the ability to support the health care missions of  the University of Florida.” –Heather B. Long, M.S.N.

As UF Health advances into this next chapter, its vision remains clear: to create a more connected, responsive health care system that meets the evolving needs of the people it serves. The changes in the leadership and governance are just the beginning. With renewed energy, the benefit of multiple perspectives and a deep rooted commitment to excellence, UF Health is building a future where every patient has seamless access to the care they need—when and where they need it. Together with its community partners, UF Health is shaping a healthier tomorrow while contributing to clinical training opportunities for the next generation of health care providers.

Look for future updates, as UF Health moves forward it will continue to provide the community the latest developments, progress and innovations shaping the future of health care.
