Wartburg Named Among Best Nursing Homes In New York State

MOUNT VERNON, NY — A Hudson Valley institution is once again earning recognition for its efforts to go above and beyond.

Wartburg’s Skilled Nursing Facility has been named one of the “Best Nursing Homes in New York State” for the 12th consecutive year by U.S. News & World Report. Both Short-Term Rehabilitation and Long-Term Care received ratings in the “High Performing” category.

Only 19 percent of nearly 15,000 skilled nursing facilities nationwide earned the distinction in even one of the categories. Of the 600 nursing homes in New York State, only 44 achieved a “High Performing” rating in both categories.

“We are so proud of the skilled services provided on this campus. Our continued presence as a top-tier nursing home in this country is only possible because of our employees’ steadfast commitment to quality care and service,” said Dr. David J. Gentner, Wartburg’s President and CEO. “The way the nursing home team works together to provide comfort and rehabilitative support to those entrusted to our care while offering a sense of trust is perhaps what’s most important.”

Since 2009, U.S. News’ annual Best Nursing Homes have helped consumers and their families decide where to go to for quality rehabilitation and nursing home care. The 2024 edition of Best Nursing Homes features ratings of more than 15,000 nursing homes.

To calculate the Best Nursing Homes ratings, U.S. News evaluated each nursing home’s performance using several quality measures obtained from CMS. The methodology factored in data about resident care, safety, outcomes and other aspects of quality. Both short- and long-term ratings included data on nurse staffing, use of antipsychotic drugs and success in preventing Emergency Room and hospital visits. The long-term care rating also includes measures of whether a home changed ownership and how well they were staffed on weekends.

“We are incredibly honored to be recognized consistently as one of the Best Nursing Homes by U.S. News & World Report,” said Bridget Zimmermann, VP of Operations and Administrator for Wartburg. “This award is a testament to the unwavering dedication of our staff, who go above and beyond every day to provide compassionate, high-quality care to our residents. At Wartburg, we strive to create a supportive and nurturing environment that feels like home, and this recognition affirms our commitment to excellence in serving our community.”

Wartburg recently opened The Berkemeier Living Center, a 50,500 square-foot facility dedicated to Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementia. The new Memory Care Center has 64 state-of-the-art residences, including 32 private and 32 companion suites, focused on Alzheimer’s and dementia care. The building was designed with small households, with each household having its own living, dining, and kitchen spaces. Senior Housing News, a National Healthcare publication, presented Wartburg with a 2024 Architecture & Design Award.
